The Beginning of Advanced Financial

Advanced Financial Federal Credit Union was originally chartered as Bell Telephone Laboratories Federal Credit Union on April 30, 1965. The charter organization certificate was signed by seven employees of Bell Telephone Laboratories, Inc., working in Murray Hill, NJ. This began the proud history of service to employees and retirees of Nokia Bell Labs, whom we are honored to continue providing exceptional service to them today.

Over the intervening years, our credit union’s name evolved and went through a couple of notable changes. The name was first changed to Advanced Financial Services FCU in 1984 and then Advanced Financial FCU in 2005. Employees of Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield were added through a credit union merger. Later, the field of membership was expanded as a community-chartered credit union serving Essex and Union counties. Through mergers with United Financial Services FCU (formerly WENEWARK FCU) in 2016 and West Orange Municipal FCU in 2020, we have further expanded our presence in communities in both counties.
